Professional info

I am a hard-working, very enthusiastic and ambitious individual, comfortable working in 2D and/or 3D and boast a wide range of skills, with the ability to work easily as an individual or within a group.

I am capable of working very hard under strict pressure and meeting approaching deadlines. I am also exceedingly patient, with good leadership initiative and a refined understanding of timing and composition.

Additionally, I have gained a good understanding of both motion and perspective, invaluable for more complex animation.

Work experience
Freelance Animator

July 2014 - Present

As a freelance animator, I have secured multiple projects for a number of different companies. I was invited back to Smudge Digital for a brief period on a freelance basis, working on an advertisement for the Spidatrap product, an invention for arachnophobes, a documentary about James Clerk Maxwell, that was shown on BBC and an abstract piece for an entrepreneur site. I have been working on numerous projects since and have been working on "The Hashtag Show" with some well-known Scottish comedians.

Character Animator, Smudge Digital

October - November 2014

I worked at Smudge Digital on “Deep Roots – The Bloody Boyds” as part of Homecoming Scotland 2014. I animated the story of William Boyd completely in silhouette as per the style of the piece of work. This was one of my first proper attempts at more realistic 2D animation, as I tended to animate in more of a cartoon style beforehand.

2D Animator, Touzie Tyke

February 2014

This period of work experience involved creating a segment of animation for a 2D health and safety video for a
well-known power company. During my time here, I learnt how to animate in After Effects and successfully transferred my skills over to it. Additionally, I experienced, for the first time, working purely on character animation as a specialism, which I relished in.

Lead Animator, Smudge Digital

March - April 2014

Worked on a contracted 2D animation work within a small group of animators, animating inserts featured in an independent low-budget Scottish documentary. This experience allowed me the chance to hone my animating
skills on a production that could, potentially, give me lots of exposure as an animator. This position also allowed me the opportunity to provide a mentor role for the other animators, as I was the most experienced at working with 2D animation.

Education
Master of Design in Animation, The Glasgow School of Art.

September 2012 - August 2013

One of the main aspects of the course was character animation. My time spent here produced a number of different animation projects including: "Good Vs. Evil, "A Chessy Love Story", "A Ninja Tale" and "Tim's Time Machine." Overall the time spent at this institution has helped to strengthen my animation skill on the whole.

BSc (Hons) in Computer Animation, University of the West of Scotland

September 2008 - May 2012

Whilst here, I was taught the most basic animation principles and fundamental animation techniques. I learnt the process of 3D modelling and animating whilst at the university, in addition to lighting, texturing and rigging. We explored all aspects of animation, including stop-motion, claymation and pixellation. A period of study that involved the research of animation history and influence ignited my interest in the history of the industry.

We were also taught in film and special effects classes, to improve our overall chances of securing a job in the creative industries. Work that I created during my time here included: "The Trainer", "Treasure of the Temple" and "Come Fly With Me."
